Aftertaste by Merriam AlFuhaid

There is a wall between us
Of distance, of time, of wounds
I wish it were not there
Although I built it for my own protection
And rebuild it everyday

No, I do not hate you
I just love you and love myself
In the same breath
But I know that is impossible for you to understand
And yes, I know all the things you’ve done for me
You can list them if you want
You insist there were no strings attached
And you were right
No strings
Only chains.
My liberty is not up for negotiation
It will never belong to you
No, I do not hate you
I love you so much
But I would rather a beggar be
Than face the aftertaste of
Of your kind heart.
